Lorelei Medcalf is a South Australian artist who works in printmaking, illustration, and book arts.
Daily walks along the Fleurieu coastline are a source of inspiration, whether it is the natural or man-made detritus washed up on the beach or her encounters with birds and animals. Lorelei is drawn to the intricacy of etching, where the finest lines are created by hatching and stippling on the surface of copper. Her works are small and intimate, reminiscent of detailed storybook illustrations.
She hopes her work reminds us that we can find wonder in our own backyards, and that even the smallest things can spark curiosity and ignite our imaginations.
Lorelei teaches printmaking at Adelaide College of the Arts and conducts workshops for both advanced practitioners and budding printmakers.
